Gary Perlmutter , M.D.
Dr. Perlmutter's practice focuses exclusively on disorders of the shoulder with particular interest in arthroscopic treatment of rotator cuff tears. The past Director of the Shoulder Clinic at the Massachusetts General Hospital, Dr. Perlmutter continues to hold a faculty teaching position at Harvard Medical School and is actively involved with educating Harvard medical students and orthopaedic residents. A member of the Harvard Shoulder Service, Dr. Perlmutter continues to practice at the Massachusetts General Hospital as well as the Portland office of Maineortho.
Dr Perlmutter grew up in Long Island, NY and attended college at the State University of NY at Oneonta. He received his medical degree from Hahnemann University School of Medicine in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, graduating with honors in Medicine and Surgery. After completing his orthopaedic residency at the University of Miami he received his shoulder specialty training as the Rowe Shoulder Fellow at the Massachusetts General Hospital. A member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, the Arthroscopy Association of North America and the prestigious American Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons Society, Dr. Perlmutter has published extensively and lectured both nationally and internationally on disorders of the shoulder.
Dr. Perlmutter lives in the Portland area with his wife and 2 children. His hobbies include oil painting, skiing and spending time on Monhegan Island, Maine.
